Hey, sophomore! Year One is done, and now it’s time to up your game. Here’s how you can make Year Two even better:

Tips for a Great Sophomore Year:

  • Build on Your Interests: Remember what you loved last year? Join a club or activity that’s all about that. Or, if you’re interested in exploring something new—whether it’s robotics, chess club, volunteering, a sport, or something else, try it out. Dive in and have fun!
  • Check Your Goals: Think about last year’s goals (both academic and personal). Do they still fit? If not, change them and aim higher!
  • Expand Your Network: Keep chatting with teachers, classmates, and mentors. They’ve got your back and can share some great advice. These relationships can provide valuable guidance and support.
  • Stay Organized: Fine-tune your organizational skills. Use an online calendar or planner to stay on top of assignments and commitments. Devices are great at setting reminders!
  • Deepen Study Techniques: Take your study habits up a notch. Experiment with different ways of studying to find what works best for you. Music or silence? Alone or with a group? You decide!
  • Ask for Help When Needed: If you need help, don’t hesitate to use available resources such as tutoring or study groups. They can be in-person or virtual and can make a big difference.
  • Explore Careers: Begin thinking about potential careers that line up with your interests. Dream big! Update your game plan (your Academic and Career Plan) to fit those dreams.
  • Pursue Leadership Opportunities: Consider taking on leadership roles in clubs or activities. It’s a chance to develop your leadership skills and make a positive impact. Show them what you’re made of!
  • Maintain Well-Being: Maintain a healthy balance among school, activities, and self-care. Prioritize your mental and physical well-being. Make sure you are feeling good about yourself, and reach out for help from family and counselors if you are not.
  • Stay Curious: Keep asking questions and trying new things. High school is a time for exploration and growth. Embrace new challenges and opportunities! As you progress through high school, your Academic and Career Plan becomes even more crucial. It will guide you in making informed decisions and creating a successful path toward your future goals.
