Senior year is a big deal! It’s the final stretch before you leap into your next adventure. Here are some tips to make sure you’re ready for what comes after high school:

Tips for a Great Senior Year:

  • Application Deadlines: Mark college application due dates on your calendar. Make sure you’ve got enough time to finish everything, especially essays.
  • Personal Statement: Tell your story, talk about what you’ve done, what you’ve learned and what you dream about doing in the future.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Get recommendation letters from those who know you best, such as your favorite teachers, mentors or coaches.
  • Financial Aid: Continue your scholarship search. Fill out the FAFSA for federal, state and institutional financial aid. The FAFSA will also give you loan information. Watch out for those due dates!
  • Interview Skills: If interviews are part of college admissions, practice your interview skills. Practice talking about yourself, highlighting your accomplishments and expressing your passions.
  • Stay Focused: Don’t get “senioritis”—complacency about your grades! Keep your grades up and stay active in your favorite activities, clubs and sports.
  • Decision Time: If college is in your future, you’ll receive acceptance and award letters. Think hard about where you want to go. Look at what each school offers (academically, socially and with regard to financial aid packages), where they are and how much they cost.
  • Graduation Requirements: Double-check that you’ve done everything needed to graduate. Your school counselor can help make sure you didn’t miss anything.
  • Reflect and Celebrate: Take a moment to reflect on your high school journey. Celebrate your achievements and the growth you’ve experienced. Your hard work has brought you to this exciting moment!

This year is about new beginnings and making sure you’re set for the future. Your Academic and Career Plan is your compass throughout this journey. Stay engaged, keep an open mind and remain proactive in shaping your future success!
